The air source heat pump is a tried and tested heating system that has been widely used across Europe for years and more recently, in part due to the Government’s determination to cut carbon emissions, across the UK.
Air source heat pumps absorb heat from the outside air and by doing so can provide up to 100% of a home’s hot water and heating needs. This heat, once absorbed, can then be used to heat radiators, underfloor heating or warm air convectors and hot water in your home. Air source heat pumps are designed to use electricity to convert heat energy in the surrounding air into hot water, even when external temperatures are as low as -20 degrees Celsius.
Heat pumps can be used in almost any property and are particularly cost-effective alternative to oil and LPG systems. They are considered a renewable energy source because they can generate between 4-5 times the amount of heat energy than the electrical energy they consume.
Whilst the initial outlay of a system like this may seem expensive, not only will your monthly outgoings be significantly reduced as a consequence of heat pump installation, but you may be eligible for the Government’s RHI scheme which could see you receive payments over the course of seven years to cover the cost of installation.
We are all becoming more aware of the impact we are having on the environment and looking for ways to generate and use energy more effectively, whilst also saving money. An air source heat pump allows you to heat your home and reduces the amount of energy required to do so.
An air source heat pump works by absorbing heat energy from outside, amplifying it and then releasing it into the central heating system to provide home heating via radiator based central heating systems or under floor heating and hot water.
Benefits of an Air Source Heat Pump Installation
- Lower fuel bills, particularly if you are replacing conventional heating systems
- Lower carbon emissions
- No fuel deliveries needed
- Heats your home as well as your water
- Minimal maintenance required
- Much easier to install compared to a Ground Source Heat Pump
